Salsa
By the end of the 1960's and beginning of the 1970's, Puerto Rican musicians living in New York, like Eddie Palmieri, Héctor Lavoe, Willie Colón, Ismael Miranda among many others, began to have a leading role in the development of a new musical style that came to be known as Salsa. Given the close ties between these New York based Puerto Rican musicians and the ones living in the island, it did not take long for the new style to influence music making in Puerto Rico as well. In fact, the island quickly developed a thriving Salsa music scene which, together with its counterpart in New York, has had a huge impact in the development of the genre. Below a video of a young Puerto Rican couple showing how it's done at a Puerto Rican festival.
